SIMMONDS-SHEEHAN'S DISEASE

Abstract
Eight cases of pituitary insufficiency were described. Post-partum necrosis was responsible in 4 cases. In another, the condition developed after a serious fracture of the base of the skull. In another, this was caused by an operation for chromophobe adenoma of the pituitary. In 2 cases, no cause was detected. Good results were obtained by a combined treatment with thyroid on the one hand, and with small doses of ACTH, cortisone or desoxycorticosterone on the other hand. One patient is reported who had a considerable atrophy of the anterior lobe of the pituitary without any functional and anatomical disorders of the other endocrine organs.
