Abstract
The order is confined to the Carboniferous and Permian, and is not related to the reptiles but is possibly ancestral to the Salamanders and caecilians. Ten characters taken to define the order are discussed. Microbrachis, Hvloplesion "Limner-peton." Seeleya, Sparodus, Ricnodon, "Hylonomus," gymnarthrids, Ostodolepis, Pantylus, Tuditanus ?, Dolichopareais and Adelogyri-nus considered to be true microsaurs, the last 2 as probably early forerunners. Petrobates, Cephalerpeton, Hylonomus and allies, and Eusuaropleura are reptiles confused with microsaurs.
