Eikonal Regge Fits to Small-Angle Elastic Scattering Data

Abstract
A fit is made to the elastic scattering data at |t|0.1 GeV2 for the reactions π±p, K±p, pp, and pp, employing the eikonal Regge model of Frautschi and Margolis. It is shown that the model is capable of explaining all aspects of the existing data, with the exception of the πp total cross section, where our fit does not flatten out as much as the high-energy results from Serpukhov. Extrapolating to still higher energies, we predict that the pp total inelastic cross section should increase by 15% from 10 GeV to 103 GeV, a result of interest in connection with recent cosmic-ray observations by Grigorov et al.
