Abstract
The oxidation of glucose to CO2 was studied with and without insulin in eviscerated rabbits. The blood sugar of the animals was maintained at a normal level for 8 hrs. by the constant injn. of C14-labeled glucose. The avg. glucose oxidation for the 8 hrs. of observation was with insulin and no fast, 199; 1-day fast, 114; 4-day fast, 52; and without insulin 30 mg./ kg./hr. The usual effect of fasting on glucose disappearance (utilization) is noted. Glucose "utilization" with insulin and no fast was 660; 1-day fast, 540; 4-day fast, 258; and without insulin 112 mg./kg./hr.Keywords
