GLUCOSE SPACE OF THE BODY

Abstract
The glucose space of the rabbit was measured by injn. of small quantities of C14-labeled glucose. Dilution of the injd. glucose is complete in 20 min. and no further dilution takes place in 3 hrs. or more. Two independent methods of calculation[long dash]one based on the concn. of radioactive material in the plasma after mixing and the other making use of the injd. glucose specific activity, gave almost identical results. The figures for the glucose space are the same as those for the thiocyanate space of the rabbit and little more than half of those reported for the galactose space of the dog. As a percentage of the body wt. the glucose space after evisceration averaged 26%, after evisceration and nephrectomy, 27% and in the intact animal, 31% of body wt.
