The fate of calcium and magnesium after intravenous administration to normal persons

Abstract
Ca and Mg balances were measured on 6 normal persons at 2 physiological levels of intake. Each period of balance lasted 14 days, and the subjects were shown to be in equilibrium at each level of intake. 0.186 g. Ca and 0219 g. Mg were then injected intraven. into the same persons every day for 14 days further and balance expts. at moderate levels of intake were carried out. The inj. of Ca and Mg was followed by a rapid increase in the excretion of these metals by the kidneys and in most subjects the additional output was equal to the amt. injected. No evidence was found that any additional Ca or Mg was excreted into the gastrointestinal tract.
