Abstract
In a search for the urinary metabolites of adrenal steroids, the materials reducing blue tetrazolium were measured in extracts made by several procedures, before and after hydrolysis. There is about 6 times as much free blue tetrazolium chromogen as Porter-Silber chromogen in cat urine. After hydrolysis with [beta]-glucuronidase, an increase in blue tetrazolium chromogens was seen in 4 out of 5 experiments. There is some doubt as to whether these blue tetrazolium chromogens are corticosteroid metabolites because about one-third is benzene-soluble when partitioned between benzene and water and because there is no increase after the administration of adrenocorticotrophic hormone.
