THE EFFECTS OF IRRADIATED ERGOSTEROL IN LARGE DOSES

Abstract
Large doses of irradiated ergosterol administered by mouth to albino rats resulted in the formation of urinary calculi. The dosage given was so large that the results seem to be of little clinical importance. Pathological changes reported by other observers were not confirmed, the suggested explanation being the solvent used in irradiation. Calculus formation is tentatively explained as due to increased absorption of Ca and phosphate with excretion by the kidneys.
