Inhibition of Pituitary Gonadotropin Secretion in Domestic Fowl by Enheptin (2-Amino, 5-Nitrothiazole)

Abstract
Evidence is presented on the nature of the action of the drug Enheptin (2-amino, 5-nitrothiazole) in causing sexual inhibition in the domestic fowl. Alleviation of sexual inhibition was accomplished in White Leghorn cockerels with exogenously administered gonadotropins. Assay of pituitaries from treated cockerels showed reduction in pituitary gonadotropin hormone content. Interference with thyroid activity was eliminated as a possible mechanism in causing sexual inhibition.
