A COMPARISON OF ANTIGENICITIES OF HYDROLYSATE AND PEPTONE TETANUS TOXOIDS IN THE GUINEA PIG 1

Abstract

Six hydrolysate and 6 peptone tetanus toxoids were tested in lots of 6 guinea pigs by injecting 1 ml. subcut. Six weeks later the pigs were bled from the heart, and the antitoxin level of each pig titrated. They were then given a massive (1000 MLD) dose of standard tetanus toxin and subsequent presence or absence of symptoms observed. The results are tabulated. The authors conclude that there is no qualitative, and little, if any, quantitative difference in antigenic action between the toxoids free from and containing peptone.
