DETERMINATION OF 17-HYDROXYCORTICOIDS IN HUMAN PERIPHERAL BLOOD

Abstract
Chloroform extracts of plasma containing 17-hydroxycorticoids were purified by a series of 5 partitions, thus eliminating the need for adsorption chromatography. The Porter-Silber color-imetric method was also modified so that the spectrum between 370 and 470 m[mu] was measured in 10 [mu] steps before and after heating with phenylhydrazine. The 2 curves were then subtracted and compared with the standard using the Allen method. Values for normal human plasma were approximately 6.5 [mu]g/100 ml plasma, males being slightly higher than females.
