Comparison of High Energy Phosphate Fractions in Muscles of Control, Alloxan Diabetic and Depancreatized Rats

Abstract
A comparison was made of the phosphate fractions, consisting of inorganic phosphate (IP), creatine phosphate (CrP), adenosine triphosphate plus adenosine diphosphate (ATP + ADP) and total acid soluble phosphate (TASP) in the muscle of control, alloxan diabetic and depancreatized rats. The only significant difference between the control and the 2 diabetic series was in the CrP which was significantly lower in pancreatectomized rats (P<.005). Sham depancreatized rats, with no pancreatic exocrine secretion, showed no change in any phosphate fraction. Twenty units of insulin intravenously caused no change in any phosphate fraction with the exception of CrP, which was decreased further in depancreatized rats (P<.005). The data suggest the presence of some endocrine factor of the pancreas, other than insulin, that is involved in the regulation of CrP levels.
