The metabolism of developing salmon eggs

Abstract
The protein decreases in the earlier egg stages and increases before hatching. The free-swimming larva burns protein at a rapid rate. The fat content of the larva reaches a slight peak about 10 days after hatching and then declines for a few days; a 2nd peak is reached at the 106th day (6 weeks after hatching). Oxygen consumption decreases markedly before hatching and increases in the larva.
