Pion-Nucleon Scattering and Production in theD13State

Abstract

A coupled-channel $\rho N\leftrightarrow \pi N\leftrightarrow \pi \Delta$ system is shown to be a good representation of the $\pi N$ $D_{13}$ amplitude below 700 MeV. It predicts the important features of the $\pi \pi N$ final states in the same energy range. Effects of other channels are discussed.
