Loss of Nerve Cells in Experimental Cerebral Concussion*

Abstract
Nerve cells were counted in selected brain stem areas of control guinea pigs and guinea pigs in which concussion had been induced by a single blow to the head 13 months prior to sacrifice. A considerable deficit in the injured animals was noted in the reticular formation, lateral vestibular nucleus and red nucleus. No loss was noted in either the motor trigeminal nucleus or the abducens nucleus.
