Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome Associated with Ductal Adenocarcinoma of the Pancreas

Abstract
CLASSICALLY, the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is associated with non-beta islet-cell tumors,1 , 2 but unusual neoplasms have been reported.3 The case of the syndrome presented below was associated with a mucinous ductal carcinoma of the head of the pancreas containing a large quantity of gastrin.Case ReportA 68-year-old black man was admitted to the University Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama, because of epigastric pain, vomiting and a 14-kg weight loss over the previous four-month period. Physical examination on admission revealed abdominal tenderness, with right-upper-quadrant guarding, and cachexia.
