THE CONCENTRATION OF UNCONJUGATED OESTRONE AND 17β-OESTRADIOL IN PLASMA DURING PREGNANCY

Abstract
Free, chloroform extractable estrone and 17[beta]-estradiol were determined in plasma samples drawn from pregnant women at different periods of gestation by means of an isotope derivative method. Concentrations of the 2 estrogens were generally found to be higher, the later in the pregnancy the samples were taken reaching a maximal level of about 15 [mu]g/l for estrone and about 30 [mu]g/l for 17[beta]-estradiol between the 28th and the 38th week. Several low levels of the same order of magnitude as found in the middle of the pregnancy were observed towards the termination of pregnancy.
