Induced magnetization density inα-uranium

Abstract

The magnetic form factor of the induced magnetic moments in $\alpha$-uranium [$\frac{0.0049{\mu }_{\beta }}{\left(\mathrm{U}\mathrm{atom}\right)}$ at 78 K with an applied field of 7 T] has been measured with polarized neutrons. The experimental points are significantly below the form factors determined for a number of uranium compounds. We interpret the results in terms of wide $5f$ bands and a partial quenching of the orbital magnetic moment.
