Abstract
To investigate the relationship of changes in glomerular filtration of Na and in total plasma volume to the renal excretion of Na during quiet standing, rapid infusions of human serum albumin or hypertonic salt solns. were given to normal human subjects. It was found that the anti-diuretic reaction to standing does not require a contraction of total plasma volume. This reaction could be reversed by admn. of hypertonic NaCl soln. without increasing the rate of Na filtration; but in so doing, the plasma volume was expanded. The renal response to NaCl loads under these conditions was not dependent solely upon alterations in glomerular filtration of Na or in the concn. of Na in the serum. This publication has 24 references indexed in Scilit:
