Ablative Acceleration of Thin Foil Targets by Intense Proton Beams

Abstract
A focused proton beam of up to 2×1010 W/cm2 was obtained using a pinch-reflex ion diode connected to a Reiden IV generator. Experiments on beam target interaction have been carried out using thin foil targets. In this power range the interaction was explained classically. The experimental dependence of ablation pressure on proton beam intensity was obtained as P a=3×10-3 I 0.7 bar (I in W/cm2).
