THE PEOLONGED ADMINISTRATION OF THEELIN AND THEELOL TO MALE AND FEMALE RATS AND ITS BEARING ON REPRODUCTION*

Abstract

Male rats, from time of weaning for periods of 113-242 days, received daily injections of 0.65-32.5 [gamma] of theelol, 1.65-6.6 [gamma] of theelin. Of injected animals, 24 of 53 impregnated [female][female] of controls 17 of 39 sired young. Body wt. of injected [male][male] was 87% of controls; weights of testes, prostates, Cowper''s glands were less than controls. In 41 [female][female] receiving daily injections of theelol from time of weaning (0.65-32.5 [gamma]) for 143-316 days, there were 100 matings, 61 pregnancies, 41 litters. Reproduction was below normal, parturition frequently delayed, lactation decreased.
