Abstract
Urinary 17-hydroxycorticoids (17-OHCS) were assayed by acidifying 2 ml of urine to pH 2, then extracting immediately with n-butanol. After treatment of the butanol extract with anhydrous sodium carbonate, the 17-OHCS were determined directly by the Porter-Silber reaction without evaporation of the butanol. The Porter-Silber color was read in a colorimeter at a single wave length. The results obtained with this method are claimed not to be inferior to those reported with the macro methods. Values obtained with this method in normal and diseased patients are given.
