Multiple-Scattering Calculation ofπ-Nucleus Scattering near the 3-3 Resonance

Abstract

The $\pi$-nucleus interaction near the $\pi$-nucleon 3-3 resonance $\Delta \mathrm{}\left(1236\right)\mathrm{}$ is examined by use of multiple-scattering theory. $\pi$-nucleus total cross sections are calculated and are found to be in agreement with experimental data. Multiple-scattering effects are found to be important for this agreement.
