Renal function after aortography with large contrast medium doses

Abstract
Aortographies are made with large doses of contrast medium after transfemoral catheteriza-tion in healthy dogs under general anesthesia. Renal function was tested by means of inulin and para-aminohippurate (PAH) clearances before and after the contrast medium injection, and the kidneys examined microscopically post-mortem. Properly performed aortography with transfemoral catheterization does not cause renal failure if the renal capacity is intact previous to the examination.
