Abstract
The effect of the pylorus on the acid secreting mechanism of the fundus was investigated using new methods. A comparison of the acid secretion in 2 dogs before and after partial gastrectomy with that in 2 dogs before and after gastro- duodenostomy showed that after removal of the pylorus the acid secretion was lowered more than could be accounted for by the diluting and neutralizing effects of the duodenal secretions entering the stomach. A study of 4 whole stomach pouches with the pylorus intact and 5 with the pylorus removed showed that the acid secretion was markedly lowered by removal of the pylorus. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
