Abstract
The effects of salicylate on the glycogen content, lactic acid production, glucose uptake, O2 consumption and respiratory quotient (R.Q.) of the isolated rat diaphragm were investigated. Salicylate caused an increased glycogen breakdown and lactic acid accumulation under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, an increased O2 uptake R.Q. and a decreased glucose uptake of the diaphragms. Possible mechanisms are discussed. Keywords
