Inhibition of Gonadotrophic Hormone in Female Parabiotic Rats by Estrogen and Progesterone

Abstract
Evidence is presented that when estrogen and progesterone are injd. together into the ovariectomized partner of parabiotic rats, their effect is additive in inhibiting gonadotropic hormone secretion by the pituitary. There is evidence that the two hormones neither counteract nor potentiate each other in their action on gonadotropic secretion. Progesterone, and estrogen-progesterone combinations, prevent post-castration basophilism in the pituitary when administered in amts. adequate to prevent hypersecretion of gonadotropic hormone.
