COMBINED DRUG TREATMENT OF TUBERCULOSIS. II. STUDIES OF ANTIMICROBIALLY-ACTIVE ISONIAZID AND STREPTOMYCIN SERUM LEVELS IN ADULT TUBERCULOUS PATIENTS

Abstract
The results of application of a microbiologic assay method for serum isoniazid are presented, and some effects of change in dosage and of concomitant administration of various other drugs on the isoniazid levels in patients are reported. Para-aminosalicylic acid and para-aminobenzoic acid were the only drugs studied that significantly increased this level. The results of application of a microbiologic assay method for serum streptomycin are also presented. A significant relationship was demonstrated between serum levels of streptomycin and certain aspects of the microbiologic response of patients to streptomycin treatment.
