Detection of Nanogram Levels of Various Ring-Substituted Phenylisopropylamines in Urine and Plasma by GLC-ECD

Abstract
A simple, rapid, and sensitive procedure for the identification of ring-substituted phenylisopropylamines in the low nanogram range from urine and plasma is described. These amines were extracted from urine or plasma and converted into the corresponding N-pentafluorobenzamides which were authenticated by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC)-mass spectrometry. These derivatives provided excellent electron capturing response which enabled identification and detection of these compounds at the low nanogram range by GLC with electron capture detection. The procedure may be adopted for quantitative determination of any of these compounds from urine or plasma.
