Comparison of Urinary Excretion of Ketone Bodies, Non-Protein Nitrogen, Citric Acid and Glucose in Alloxan Diabetic and Depancreatized Rats

Abstract
A comparison was made of urinary ketone body, non-protein nitrogen (NPN) and citric acid excretions in alloxan diabetic and depancreatized rats. Two groups of diabetics were selected with urinary glucose excretions at similar levels to minimize possible effects of glucose per se and in art effort to compare animals with similar degrees of diabetes. Under the conditions of our experiments the alloxan diabetic series exhibited less ketonuria than did the depancreatized group. No difference was shown in the urinary excretion of NPN or citric acid for the 2 groups of diabetic animals.
